Start School: Derek White: From Launching the World's First Internet Bank to Scaling Galileo

Meet Derek White.

The “professor” for the upcoming Start School.

Derek has spent over two decades at the forefront of financial services innovation, and the list of things he's helped build reads like a timeline of how modern banking came to be.

He helped launch the world's first internet bank. He led digital transformation at Barclays, BBVA, and US Bank. He built the first fintech accelerator. He spearheaded mobile payments and award-winning banking apps that changed how millions of people interact with their money. At Google Cloud, he worked directly with chairs, CEOs, and C-suites from global multinationals to startups, helping them rethink their strategies with cloud, AI, and data.

Now he's CEO at Galileo Financial Technologies, scaling the business across 15 new geographies and driving year-over-year performance improvements at one of the most important fintech infrastructure companies in the world.

Derek is sitting down with Start School to talk about what he's learned building across continents and industries. How he thinks about innovation when the stakes are massive. What he's seeing in AI and fintech right now and what it means for entrepreneurs. How he approaches leadership at scale. What human-centric design actually means when you're building products for millions of people. And what building a life around the things you care about looks like when your career spans the globe.

Silicon Slopes Event Highlights

Be sure to catch the latest live discussions, workshops, podcasts and more!

GTM Chapter: Amy Cook Talks With Kris Rudeegraap, Co-CEO at Sendoso

In this episode of Go-To-Market, host Amy Cook, Silicon Slopes GTM Chapter Lead, CMO and Co-Founder of Fullcast, sits down with Kris to explore one of the most overlooked growth levers in modern B2B:

Strategic, scalable human connection.

Kris and Amy discuss the truth most teams don’t want to admit: You can’t run a digital-only strategy anymore.

Email. Ads. Content. Events. Direct mail. Field marketing. AI. You need all of it.

And in a world flooded with automation, the brands that stand out are the ones that make people feel something.

Watch now to rethink how you build pipeline, create differentiation, and engineer a modern go-to-market strategy that actually works.

MHM: Brook Anderson: The Most Dangerous Myth About Suicide (And Why We Still Believe It)

In this episode of Mental Health Momentum, Dr. David Morgan, licensed psychologist and Director of Mental Health Awareness at Silicon Slopes, sits down with Brook Anderson, Suicide Prevention Outreach Specialist at NAMI Utah, to confront the stigma, silence, and misinformation that keep people suffering alone.

Brook shares her own story of losing her boyfriend to suicide as a teenager and how that painful experience eventually led her to dedicate her life to prevention, education, and building sustainable, data-driven systems that save lives.

“If you put yourself in the shoes of someone struggling… having someone say, ‘Are you thinking about suicide?’ can decrease their stress enormously.”

Together, David and Brook dismantle the myths and misinformation and replace it with practical tools: how to ask the hard question, how to respond without panic, and how to create environments where dignity and hope stay at the center of prevention efforts.
